10. That time he could have chosen to play baseball
If only Benson and Joe Borchard could have only switched sports, Chicago would have had a lot fewer headaches and a lot more cash. At least Borchard hit that one gargantuan homer.
Injuries have derailed a lot of promising young running backs. It seemed like Benson was finally going to start to get regular carries before he suffered a knee injury against San Francisco at home.
8. That time he stole a tv in college
Sure, everyone does stupid stuff in college. Just look at these unruly rapscallions above doing beer bongs with bags over their heads. But when Benson stole a television in college, it placed a target on his back he has carried with him ever since.
Benson appeared to have won over public perception when after it seemed like the cops may have overreacted. But of course, then there was…
6. That DWI in downtown Austin
The event that mercifully ended it all.
I searched endlessly to find a link, but couldn’t come up with one. Anyways, we all remember this story, right? Benson left the field before a (preseason?) game ended, and his teammates ratted him out to the media. Gotta stay til the end, man.
4. That time Bears defenders try to injure him in practice
Yeah, uh, maybe if Benson was going to do all this partying, he should have at least done some of it with his teammates. Seriously, can anyone ever remember a team favoring one guy (Thomas Jones) so much over another (Ced) in a preseason position battle?
3. That time he cried on Draft Day because he knew the Bears would be stingy
Poor guy only got a $17 million signing bonus. Really, I don’t think that’s too shabby for scoring 10 career touchdowns.
2. That time he got "injured" in the Super Bowl
While it has never been confirmed, if Benson actually did lead on that he was more hurt than it appeared in the Super Bowl, that would be football’s capitol sin. Come on Ced, Bob Probert would have jogged back out there if someone chopped off both his arms.
1. That time he held out
Holding out for a long time can kill a career. The Bears should have seen what they had in Benson before ever signing him to a contract. By the way, everyone would been a lot happier if Benson did turn out like Ricky Williams, right? Looking back on it, that would have been the best case scenario.

Please go check out The Fantasy Factor this morning, a new fantasy sports blog by Matt Olsen and I. The first post I wrote today is dead sexy, I assure you.
So all I did was hack away on this freaking laptop last night. Zack, Scott, you guys wanna party tonight? I'd ask PJ Barnes but I already know the answer.

The Bears should not have released benson. Dumb move. What they should have done was offer the Florida Marlins a deal that would bring in the 28-year-old Borchard in exchange for Ced-ben. At least we are getting some "tremendous upside potential" in exchange. On a more serious note, I have to finish up school Rick and I will probably be home this weekend to attend to some sad business, but I should be nothing but available after that.
Ricky, I will be at the Cubs game tonight, so yes I am down for partying, however it will be a little difficult for me to get to the south side ie your apartment...but holler at me on my cell peice
only if we can steal a TV on a boat and then hop in a car and go speeding on michigan avenue until the cops catch us..
Just kidding of course Phil, I hope nothing is too heavy.
